Automated Lane Change Coming to Cadillac Super Cruise

February 13th, 2020 by

Cadillac’s award-winning autonomous driving suite, Super Cruise, is getting a considerable upgrade in 2020 – automated lane changing capabilities. The enhanced version of Super Cruise works through an unparalleled combination of light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensors, multiple cameras, LiDAR-collected map data, real-time GPS, and an all-new wiring system that allows for significantly more data processing. While some competitors rely solely on less effective ultrasonic sensors, Cadillac prioritizes customer safety and satisfaction above all else.
Already considered to have the best and safest self-driving functionality in the automotive industry, the Super Cruise experience will be better than ever when the enhanced version launches later this year.
What Is Automated Lane Changing?
When Super Cruise is engaged, the car will safely change lanes with minimal user input required. For example, if a Cadillac driver is on the highway and wishes to move one lane to the left, all they have to do is tap the left-turn signal. Super Cruise will make sure that it’s safe to change lanes, adjust speed accordingly for the lange change, and maintain the proper speed once the automated lane changing is complete.
This new Super Cruise capability is an outstanding feature for Cadillac drivers that spend a long time on freeways and highways. Whether it’s a lengthy commute or a family road trip, Super Cruise’s automated-lane-changing capabilities will make driving as pleasant and stress-free as possible.
More Enhanced Super Cruise Features
Automated lane change isn’t the only new feature coming in 2020. Super Cruise Chief Engineer Mario Maiorana said:
This is the most extensive update we’ve made to Super Cruise since its debut. We have made a number of improvements to make Super Cruise more intuitive, better performing, and more accessible for our customers. In addition to the automated lane change functionality, we’ve made improvements to the user interface and hands-free driving dynamics.
The other Super Cruise enhancements Maiorana referred to include:
Addition of richer map information to enable automated lane change and improved functionality through turns and highway interchanges
Improved software for better steering and speed control
Enhancements to make it easier and more intuitive for drivers to engage the system
Super Cruise has already been lauded by critics and consumers alike, and the best is yet to come. Findlay Cadillac is thrilled to offer these exciting technological advancements to our customers this year. Contact us to find out more!
